Most of my DTV stations are on UHF. One is on VHF. They are about 20 miles away with tons of large trees in the way. With the existing rabbit ears and loop antenna inside the house, my brand new Samsung plasma HDTV would cut in and out on several channels. Even placing the rabbit ears and loop in the window nearest to the direction of the broadcast stations only helped a little. I purchased this antenna and had planned to install it on my chimney. It was easy to put together and is made well. It is also MADE IN THE USA by Audiovox. I put it up in the rafters inside my attached garage and tested it out. Worked well. I permanently installed it by drilling holes into the mounting mast and secured it to my roof rafters. I then secured the antenna up in the rafters as high as I could get it, and pointed it toward the transmitter towers in Milwaukee. I added brand new RG-6 cabling to a 4-port GE plug-in amplifier. I then connected these outputs to my HDTV and my stereo receiver. Both of them work AWESOME on ALL available channels from the list that I received from ANTENNAWEB.ORG. I actually received 90% signal or better on all channels of TV, and even pick up signals from 30 miles in the opposite direction of where I have the antenna pointed. Even with an amplified TERK indoor FM antenna in the window, I could not keep a "stereo" lock on most radio stations. This solved my issues there as well on ALL available FM radio stations. I plan to hook this up to receive my NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts as well on my emergency radio. Bottom Line: This thing is HUGE, but works GREAT.
Great reception that is as good as cable or satellite. Receive 39 digial channels and 1 analog. Easy install. 35 to 80 miles from towers. I have no rotor or boosters. They say you get what you pay for but with this reasonably priced antenna it gives more than that. I love it.
I followed the instructions and it took me about 1 hour to install it on the roof. But be very carefull about grounding the antenna and also about the part of static electricity. I already had all the cables and installation ready from my old Dish receptor, so I already had the grounding and the static cable connections ready. I inserted the pole that came with the antenna into the stomp (short pole) from my old dish and put some bracelet around to tight the two poles together. I used a rubber coupling that has a metal bracelet at the two ends to hold the two poles together and pointed the antenna to the right place on the horizon and that was it. If you don't ground the antenna properly, you may end up frying your TV's if a storm hits it. I can see all channels in my area and they are showing crystal clear. Walmart delivered at the store about a week after I ordered online for free....thanks wal....
Easy to put together, works better than I expected. Great item at good price. We now get 76 stations. Subtracting out duplicates, we get 46 stations. All as good or better than cable. Just add netffix or Hula and you should be all set.
It was bigger than my original antenna. The instructions were easy to follow. The back assembly did not fit into the main assembly and had to be bent in order for the corners to slide into the main assembly. the front assembly elements had no connection or instruction for connection. The reception is ok. Just a little better than the original antenna that had broken elements which it incured when it hit the ground during hurricane Wilma in 2005. Well worth the price if you are above average assembler. was happy with the delivery was expecting on the 9th and got it on the 6th , election day.
Bought this to replace the second small amplified antenna I had fail in a year. It is large, but very light, it doesn't seem particularly strong and is all very thin aluminum and plastic. I was able to carry it up my ladder with one hand. Some of the holes didn't quite line up during assembly and the threads on the coax connection broke free and spun while trying to tighten the cable. I noticed this immediately and was carefull not to torque it all the way around. It comes with no cable, so I got good quality coax and hooked it to my tv. I now get all the major channels and a bunch of others. My small amplified antennas only pulled in one major channel and maybe 3 others. So despite the lack of quality it does work really well without any amplification or rotators. You will need to provide your own grounding block/ lightning arrestor set up as well. It cost $20 less at WM than the home improvement stores so happy enough in the end.
For every 30 miles out you need three times the range antenna. I only get four channels, and that's with a 30 db amplifier, but I think there is only four channels available from that direction. Since my small antenna got the same channels but was very spotty even with thew amp. This antenna works very well, crystal clear always on channels no spotty reception. Awesome High Definition signal. I want another antenna and point it in a different direction to get more channels. Overall a good antenna. If you live further than 40 miles as the crow flies this is not good enough. You would need at least a 90 mile plus antenna, and I always use an signal amp too.
We're about 60 miles from the towers we need and surrounded by miles and miles of tall pines and oaks. The ground is rolling hills - nothing steep. We have the tower about 25' in the air. We get ABC, NBC, CBS,12.2, 12.3, PBS (20.1 and 20.3), 26.2 and 6.2. all of the stations are crystal clear. occasionally we get pixelation (weather? wind? signal strength?) on the 12.2, 12.3 channels. An amplifier doesn't seem to make any difference so we're not using one. The antenna replaced the old RCA antenna that was hit one too many times with falling branches. The old one gave us another year or two with bent prongs and eventually one broken one. But when we had to start putting masking tape on too many we lost some reception. We bought it from Walmart because the price was good online (much more $ in store) and we knew we could bring it back if it didn't work. We had to bring the first one we ordered back to the store because it was already bent. We exchange it for a good one with some confusion over the huge dif. in price between online and in-store.
most of my stations are in a 45-50 mile range. antenna did not get any of them until I added an amplifier on the mast. then it worked ok but should not be advertised as a 60 mile range. even with the amp the signal will cut out at times on the 50 mile stations. the altitude of the antenna is 30 ft from the ground and the elevation of the ground is 80 ft above sea level. my guess the antenna should be rated as a 30 mile range.
WE ARE 35 MILES FROM SAN FRANCISCO WITH PRETTY CLEAR SIGHT AND THIS ANTENNA DID NOT DO AS WELL AS A MUCH OLDER ONE WITH MORE ELEMENTS FOR GETTING OTA SIGNALS. DIRECTIONS DID NOT EXACTLY MATCH THE ANTENNA. WALMART SHIPPING AND HANDLING (INCLUDING RTURN) WAS EXCELLENT.
